The Nigerian Navy has expressed its readiness to collaborate with relevant organisations to strengthen indigenous shipbuilding capacity and enhance naval operations across the country.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, made this known during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director of ASELSAN Nigeria Limited, Mr. Amadou Ndongo Thiam, to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
Vice Admiral Abbas said the engagement aligns with the Navy’s strategic objective of promoting local content development, encouraging technology transfer, and building sustainable operational capabilities within Nigeria’s maritime defence sector.
According to him, the Navy remains committed to partnerships that will deliver tangible technological advancements and support the growth of the nation’s defence industrial base.
During the visit, the ASELSAN delegation indicated its readiness to establish a long-term partnership with the Nigerian Navy, with plans to explore joint ventures, collaborate with indigenous shipyards, and support the integration of advanced defence technologies.
The company highlighted its expertise in unmanned systems, infrared search and track systems, integrated combat solutions, and the modernization of naval platforms.
The delegation also visited the Naval Dockyard Limited, where they observed the ongoing construction of Seaward Defence Boats, a development they said presents significant opportunities for collaboration with Nigeria’s growing shipbuilding industry.
Vice Admiral Abbas described the engagement as timely and strategic, stressing the need for structured partnerships, particularly through government-to-government frameworks, to ensure transparency, efficiency, and alignment with national security priorities.
He added that such collaborations would further strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to secure its maritime domain and enhance overall naval operational readiness.
