The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among key stakeholders in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He made this known on Tuesday while receiving the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of New Guard Security & Consultancy Services Limited (NGSCL), Major General Jamil Sarham (Rtd), during a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, the NGSCL boss explained that the company serves as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and Private Security Companies (PSCs), with the goal of standardising operations, improving regulatory compliance, and strengthening synergy across the nation’s security framework.
He disclosed that the firm has already established a Project Management Office and commenced full operations, adding that its ongoing engagements have significantly reduced operational frictions between PSCs and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Sarham also commended the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and sustained crackdown on crude oil theft, noting that such efforts have contributed to improved oil production and enhanced national economic stability.
In his response, Vice Admiral Abbas welcomed the initiative, describing institutionalised collaboration as vital in addressing emerging maritime security threats.
He observed that earlier areas of friction between the Navy and private security operators had been largely resolved, assuring NGSCL of the Navy’s continued support in strengthening coordinated strategies to protect critical national assets and maintain maritime security.
The meeting highlighted ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to deepen partnerships with both public and private stakeholders in safeguarding the country’s maritime environment.
