The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has applauded the appointment of veteran broadcaster Stella Din-Jacob as the first female Executive Director of News at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), describing it as a landmark victory for women in the media industry.
In a congratulatory message jointly signed by Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang (Chairperson) and Comrade Nkiruka Okeke (Secretary), NAWOJ FCT hailed Din-Jacob as a “trailblazer whose career exemplifies excellence, integrity, and innovation.”
The association said her appointment, announced by the Federal Government on August 20, 2025, is a recognition of her professionalism and a groundbreaking milestone that affirms women’s capacity to rise to the highest levels of leadership in Nigeria’s media sector.
“Your leadership at various levels brought innovation, balance, and inclusivity into broadcast journalism, while championing the voices of women and advancing gender equity in the newsroom and beyond,” the statement read.
NAWOJ expressed confidence that Din-Jacob, who has consistently broken barriers in her career, will continue to inspire younger female journalists across the country.
“We celebrate this achievement and wish her continued success in this new role. Congratulations once again, EDN,” the statement concluded.
Stella Din-Jacob, a native of Plateau State, is a qualified lawyer and accomplished broadcast journalist with over 30 years of experience. She studied law at the University of Kent, England, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993.
Her broadcasting career began at Channels Television in 1994, where she worked as a programme producer, newscaster, and editor. She later freelanced for international media including CNN, Al Jazeera, Vatican Radio, and The Guardian (London). She went on to hold senior roles at Silverbird Television, Minaj Broadcast Group, and NEWSMEDIA Productions.
In 2018, she joined TVC Communications as Director of News/Editor-in-Chief, where she transformed the channel into one of the top three most-watched stations in Nigeria. Under her leadership, TVC won the Nigerian Media Merit Award for Best Television Station and delivered extensive coverage of the 2023 general elections.
Din-Jacob has earned numerous recognitions, including the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism’s Lifetime Award for Journalistic Excellence (2022) and top ranking as Nigeria’s most powerful woman in journalism by WIJAFRICA (2024).
With her new role at NTA, Din-Jacob made history as the first woman to occupy the position of Executive Director of News at Nigeria’s oldest and largest television network.
