The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to drive sustainable development, as it joined global stakeholders at the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event.
The annual forum, which brought together high-level representatives from governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, the technical community, and international organisations, serves as a leading global platform for implementing the WSIS Action Lines key pathways aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The NCC emphasized that Nigeria’s participation underscores its strategic vision to promote inclusive digital transformation, bridge the digital divide, and ensure ICTs are effectively harnessed to support national and global development priorities.
“As a frontline regulator in Africa’s digital landscape, the NCC remains committed to advancing policies and programmes that align with international best practices, foster innovation, and deepen Nigeria’s contribution to global ICT discourse,” a statement signed by Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Acting Head, Public Affairs at the Commission stated.
The WSIS+20 Forum marked two decades of progress since the launch of the WSIS process, providing a platform for nations to share best practices, measure impact, and renew partnerships aimed at building a more inclusive, people-centered information society.
