The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has addressed recent media reports on its proposed ₦140 billion budget for 2025, stressed that the figure remained provisional and is still undergoing legislative scrutiny.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 3, the Commission explained that it had, on September 30, defended its maiden budget estimates before the Senate Committee overseeing its activities. The session, it noted, involved both open and closed-door engagements, during which lawmakers raised observations and suggested adjustments.
The NCDC clarified that while the Senate Committee has granted a provisional approval, the process is not yet complete until the House of Representatives conducts its own review and concurrence. Only then will the budget be incorporated into the national appropriation framework.
“The ₦140 billion figure remains unchanged at this stage,” the Commission stated. “However, certain allocations reported in the media do not reflect the adjustments made during the Senate’s review. These changes will be properly captured in the final document after the House concludes its scrutiny.”
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management, the Commission assured the public that resources will be equitably deployed across the North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory in line with its development mandate.
“As we commence operations, we will prioritize inclusivity through comprehensive needs assessments and broad stakeholder consultations,” the statement added.
Established less than a month ago, the NCDC is tasked with driving infrastructure renewal, strengthening social services, and promoting economic revitalization across Nigeria’s North Central region.
