The Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Nwakuche, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Corrections (CSC) Jane N. Osuji as the new Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), with immediate effect.
Her appointment followed the retirement of the former spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who bowed out of service on 19 November 2025.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Controller-General of Corrections (Human Resources), Ado Sale, Osuji was described as a seasoned communication professional whose elevation marks a historic milestone becoming the first woman to serve as the National Public Relations Officer of the NCoS.
A native of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, Osuji holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University, as well as a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
Enlisted into the then-Nigerian Prisons Service in 2009 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II, she has since completed all required professional courses for her rank, including the Internal Security/Low Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Osuji’s career spans several key public relations postings. She served as Assistant Public Relations Officer in both the Lagos State Command and the FCT Command, later moving to the National Headquarters as Assistant National PRO, working under four Controllers-General. She also served as Press Secretary to three Ministers of Interior between 2015 and 2023.
Until her latest appointment, she was a staff member of the Public Relations Unit at the NCoS Headquarters, Abuja.
CSC Osuji is married and blessed with children.
