The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohamed Buba Marwa, has said the forthcoming National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) 2026–2030 will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
Marwa made the assertion on Thursday at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja while receiving the final summative evaluation report on the performance of the NDCMP 2021–2025.
According to him, the comprehensive preparation underway for the next master plan reflects a holistic strategy aimed at delivering measurable improvements in public health and national security.
He noted that the successful implementation of the new framework would consolidate ongoing reforms and enhance outcomes in both drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts nationwide.
“I must commend your commitment, diligence and the excellent job you have done on the evaluation of the NDCMP 2021–2025,” Marwa said while praising the evaluation team. “Your acknowledgement of the successes recorded by the agency in implementing the master plan is well appreciated. By the time the NDCMP 2026–2030 is fully ready and implemented, we will achieve much more under the renewed hope administration of President Bola Tinubu, to the benefit of Nigerians and the country as a whole.”
The evaluation was conducted by a team of consultants led by Ibrahim Abdu Wakawa, Head of the Mental Health Department at the University of Maiduguri.
Speaking earlier, Wakawa commended Marwa’s leadership, noting that the agency surpassed many of the expectations outlined in the 2021–2025 master plan. He expressed optimism that identified gaps particularly in drug demand reduction would be effectively addressed during the implementation of the 2026–2030 framework.
Other members of the evaluation team included Mrs. Ngozi Oguejiofor and Mrs. Ibiba Odili, both retired Assistant Commanders General of Narcotics who previously headed the NDCMP Secretariat at different periods within the agency.
The National Drug Control Master Plan serves as Nigeria’s strategic blueprint for coordinated action against drug abuse, illicit trafficking, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention initiatives across relevant institutions.
