The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commenced the year 2026 with a strong resolve to dismantle drug cartels and intensify sensitization efforts nationwide, following directives from its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
Marwa outlined the Agency’s operational priorities during a high-level annual review and planning meeting at NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja, which brought together directors, zonal and state commanders, as well as heads of the Seaports, International Airports, Marine Unit, Strike Force, and Special Operations Units.
According to Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, the meeting emphasized that the Agency would build on the record-breaking successes of previous years, consolidating gains in both Drug Supply Reduction (DSR) and Drug Demand Reduction (DDR). Babafemi noted that Marwa charged commanders to ensure operational discipline, zero tolerance for compromise, and thorough planning before all operations.
Addressing the top brass, Marwa stressed that 2026 would be a year of unprecedented consolidation. “We are here to completely disrupt the financial lifelines of drug cartels and ensure that every community in Nigeria is sensitized against the scourge of substance abuse,” he declared. He also called for all State Drug Control Committees to be functional down to local government and ward levels.
Marwa praised the dedication of NDLEA personnel over the past five years and reassured the public of the Agency’s commitment to protecting Nigerian youths and families. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to strengthen the fight against illicit drugs.
“The strong footing of the NDLEA at the start of 2026 is a signal to drug cartels that there will be no vacuum or breathing space for their illicit trade,” he added.
