The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine concealed under a fake pregnancy belly wrap in Lagos.
Spokesperson of the Agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said Ezewuike, a mother of one and proprietress of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit in Ago Palace Way, Okota, was intercepted at Jibowu Bus Terminal, Yaba, on Friday, 22nd August 2025, while heading to Abuja to deliver the consignment. A search of her residence led to the recovery of 200 grams of cutting agent used in cocaine production. She confessed to inheriting the drug trade from her late husband, despite running her fashion business for over 20 years.
In Lagos, NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation (DOGI) also intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud” cannabis, weighing 48.6 kilograms, concealed in kitchen sinks imported from the United States and delivered to a courier company.
Major crackdowns continued in other states. In Adamawa, operatives raided the home of a notorious drug dealer in Yola South, where his associate was caught with hundreds of thousands of tramadol pills. In Kogi, a suspect was arrested at Idah waterside after crossing the River Niger from Onitsha with large quantities of opioids. In Kano, NDLEA operatives arrested multiple suspects with thousands of opioid pills and litres of codeine syrup, while another fugitive’s residence yielded massive drug seizures. Kwara recorded nearly 2.3 tonnes of skunk recovered in three separate truck interceptions around Ajase-Ipo, while in Ekiti, two suspects were caught in Ikere-Ekiti with cannabis.
Similar operations in Taraba, Edo, Delta and Ondo states resulted in the destruction of over 75,000 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on vast farmlands and warehouses. In Abuja, two dispatch riders were arrested in Jabi for distributing packaged drugs, including pentazocine injections and skunk, to buyers within the city.
While commending the operatives across Lagos, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Taraba, Delta, Adamawa, the FCT, Ondo, Ekiti and Edo states, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), hailed their resilience and urged them to sustain the agency’s balanced strategy of tough enforcement and sensitization under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, which also recorded advocacy visits and lectures in schools, mosques and communities during the week.
