The Director of Seaport Operations at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), ACCGN Achie-Abia Ibinabo, has paid an official visit to the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Apapa, Lagos, to reinforce inter-agency collaboration against maritime drug trafficking and transnational crimes.
The visit, which took place on February 25, 2026, focused on strengthening operational synergy between the NDLEA and the Nigerian Navy in combating illicit drug activities along Nigeria’s maritime domain.
During discussions with the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, both parties emphasized the importance of enhanced intelligence sharing, coordinated joint patrols, and effective interdiction operations aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks operating through seaports and coastal routes.
The engagement also addressed the need to curb drug abuse among personnel through targeted awareness programmes and strengthened internal monitoring initiatives. Officials noted that promoting discipline within security agencies remains critical to sustaining operational effectiveness.
The meeting underscored a shared commitment between the NDLEA and the Nigerian Navy to deepen cooperation, improve maritime security, and strengthen institutional frameworks in the fight against drug-related crimes.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to build stronger partnerships and enhance coordinated responses to evolving maritime security threats in Nigeria’s territorial waters.
