The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 818,492 candidates representing 60.26 per cent securing five credits and above, including Mathematics and English.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the results on Wednesday at a press briefing in Minna, Niger State. He disclosed that out of the 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the June/July examination, 1,144,496 candidates, representing 84.26 per cent, recorded five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics.
According to him, a total of 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 685,514 males and 681,696 females, while 1,358,339 actually sat, made up of 680,292 males and 678,047 females.
On candidates with special needs, the registrar said 1,622 sat for the examination. These included 941 with hearing impairment, 191 with visual impairment, among others.
Speaking on examination malpractice, Wushishi revealed that 3,878 cases were recorded in 2025, compared with 10,094 in 2024, representing a 61.58 per cent reduction. He added that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in mass cheating and would face appropriate sanctions after due process.
Similarly, nine supervisors were recommended for blacklisting over poor conduct ranging from aiding and abetting to unruly behaviour and negligence.
The Registrar also noted disruptions in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where communal clashes disrupted examinations in eight schools between July 7 and 25. Thirteen subjects and 29 papers were affected, with plans already underway to reschedule the examinations in collaboration with the state government.
By state performance ranking, Kano led with 68,159 candidates obtaining five credits including Mathematics and English, followed by Lagos with 67,007, and Oyo with 48,742. At the bottom of the table was Gabon, one of NECO’s overseas centres, where no candidate achieved the benchmark.
Wushishi also announced that, in line with the revised national curriculum, NECO will henceforth conduct examinations in only 38 subjects, which he said will reduce the waiting period for results.
The 2025 SSCE was conducted between June 16 and July 25, 2025.
