The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to victims of the recent killings in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Zubaida Umar said:
“Our hearts go out to the families and communities affected by this tragic incident. NEMA remains fully committed to providing timely humanitarian assistance and support to help alleviate the suffering of the displaced and distressed residents. We are working closely with our state counterparts and security agencies to ensure that relief materials are delivered efficiently and that these communities receive the care they urgently need.”
Mrs. Umar was part of the Federal Government delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima on a condolence visit to the state, aimed at sympathising with the government and people of Kwara over the tragic incident that claimed several lives.
During the visit, Vice President Shettima conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the affected families and communities. He disclosed that President Tinubu had directed NEMA to work closely with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilise resources and deliver timely relief materials to the affected communities.
In line with this directive, NEMA personnel have been on the ground since the incident occurred, coordinating with state authorities and security agencies to assess needs and provide immediate humanitarian support, including food items, shelter materials, and other essentials.
Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, commended the prompt intervention of NEMA and other federal agencies, noting that their presence had helped stabilise the situation and reassure the affected residents.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, and the Emir of Kaiama, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, praised the swift deployment of NEMA personnel and security operatives, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
The condolence visit, which took place on February 7, 2026, underscored NEMA’s continued commitment to humanitarian service and the Federal Government’s resolve to support victims of violence and emergencies across Nigeria.
