The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s leadership and national development through strategic institutional collaboration, announced its partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for the Institute’s 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration.
Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, disclosed this in Abuja while receiving a delegation from NIPR, confirmed both her attendance and the Agency’s active participation in the event scheduled for March 30, 2026, at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser.
Umar noted that the partnership aligned with NEMA’s broader commitment to inclusive leadership, capacity development, and national resilience, stressing the importance of recognising women’s contributions across governance, emergency management, and societal development.
She commended the recent transformation within NIPR, observed that the Institute’s initiatives over the past two years have significantly elevated its national and professional visibility.
“You can see that all of a sudden, everybody is aware of the NIPR. I commend the leadership of the Institute for the hard work and the positive difference we now see,” she said.
Earlier, leader of the delegation and Chair of the 2026 NIPR International Women’s Day Planning Committee, Lami Tumaka, explained that the programme aims to highlight the impact of women in nation-building while encouraging greater participation of women in leadership and development spaces.
Tumaka also praised NEMA’s leadership focus on planning and disaster prevention, describing Umar as an inspiration to emerging female leaders.
Members of the planning committee present during the visit included NIPR Council Member Maryam Sanusi, Chairman of NIPR FCT Chapter Stanley Ogadigo, alongside Grace Ayoola, Dr. Tope Ojeme, Fatima Abaji, and Suwaiba Baba.
The partnership underscored growing collaboration between professional institutions and emergency management authorities in promoting inclusive national development and gender-focused initiatives.
