The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Uyo Operations Office has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots disaster preparedness by hosting the Executive Members of the Emergency Management Vanguards (EMV) Disaster Management Community Development Service (CDS) Group in Akwa Ibom State.
The executives paid a courtesy visit to the agency’s office, where they were received by the Head of Operations, Mrs. Aisueni Mmandu, and other senior officials.
In her remarks, Mrs. Mmandu commended the corps members for their proactive approach in familiarising themselves with NEMA’s mandate and operations. She encouraged them to actively participate in the agency’s programmes throughout their service year, stressed the need for dedication and professionalism in disaster management responsibilities.
She also highlighted the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives, particularly the establishment of DRR Clubs in schools, as a means of promoting safety consciousness among young people. According to her, capacity building in basic first aid and emergency response remains vital to strengthening community resilience.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the CDS Group President, Miss Ofe Bounty Uko, expressed gratitude to NEMA for the warm reception and the opportunity to serve as Emergency Management Vanguards. She stated that the visit was aimed at enhancing collaboration, building stronger synergy, and identifying areas for effective partnership with the agency.
Similarly, the Vice President, Mr. Ezinwo Valentine, emphasised the need for sustained cooperation between the CDS Group and NEMA to ensure effective disaster response and prevention.
Mrs. Mmandu assured the corps members of NEMA’s continued support and willingness to deepen its collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps. She reiterated the agency’s commitment to working closely with youth volunteers in promoting disaster preparedness and safety awareness across communities in Akwa Ibom State.
The visit ended with the presentation of copies of the NEMA News Magazine to the visiting executives, marking a symbolic gesture of partnership and shared commitment to disaster risk reduction.
