The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) have reinforced their partnership to improve emergency communication systems and disaster management across the country.
In a bid to strengthen this collaboration, NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, today visited Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Mrs. Umar emphasized the need to broaden the scope of cooperation between the two organizations, focusing on enhancing emergency communication networks, advancing disaster risk reduction initiatives, and ensuring the efficient dissemination of early warning systems.
She commended NCC for its efforts in activating the national emergency number and called for a seamless connection between NCC’s emergency contact system and NEMA’s own emergency number. This would, she said, guaranteed that Nigerians in distress can receive coordinated, timely emergency services.
In response, Dr. Maida expressed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening its partnership with NEMA, stressed the importance of increasing public awareness on the correct usage of emergency numbers to better serve citizens during emergencies.
