NiDCOM applauds Ganiyat Adeduntan’s appointment as GW Women’s Basketball Head Coach

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan on her historic appointment as the Head Coach of the George Washington Revolutionaries Women’s Basketball team in the United States.

 

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, described Adeduntan’s appointment as a major achievement for Nigeria and the African diaspora, commending her resilience, leadership, and excellence in the sport.

 

Speaking on the development, Dabiri-Erewa noted that Adeduntan’s success served as an inspiration to young Nigerian women aspiring to break barriers in sports and beyond.

 

“We are immensely proud of Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan for this groundbreaking accomplishment. Her leadership, resilience, and passion for basketball have set a new standard for Nigerian excellence on the global stage,. “At NiDCOM, we celebrate her and look forward to her continued success in shaping the future of women’s basketball”she said.

 

Adeduntan’s appointment come after a highly successful tenure at Colgate University, where she led the team to back-to-back 20-win seasons and a Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) appearance in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Her return to George Washington University, where she previously served as an assistant coach, marks a significant homecoming to a program she helped develop.

 

Originally from Ibadan, Nigeria, Adeduntan’s rise in the American college basketball scene highlights the growing influence of Nigerians in diaspora communities. In addition to her coaching career, she holds a PhD in Nursing, further demonstrated her commitment to excellence beyond sports.
