The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has hailed the historic accomplishment of Captain Adebanke Osilaja, who has become the first Nigerian female pilot to earn the rank of Captain in any U.S. legacy airline.
In a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, NiDCOM, the Commission described Osilaja’s elevation as a groundbreaking achievement that brings pride to Nigeria and showcases the excellence of Nigerians in the diaspora.
NiDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said Osilaja’s rise to Captain in a major U.S. carrier reflects extraordinary professionalism, resilience and dedication, adding that her success serves as a powerful motivation to young Nigerians, especially girls aspiring to careers in aviation and other male-dominated fields.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the Commission is delighted to celebrate Osilaja, who continues to exemplify the strength, capacity and global relevance of Nigerians abroad. She recalled that Capt. Osilaja was among the honorees at the 2025 National Diaspora Merit Awards held in Abuja in July.
NiDCOM extended its best wishes to the trailblazing pilot, expressing confidence that her journey will inspire many more Nigerians to break barriers and achieve global distinction.
