As preparations intensify for the 2025 National Diaspora Day celebration, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has hosted Nigerian-American philanthropist, Dr. Krystal Chanchangi, and her daughter, Kleopatra, at its headquarters in Abuja for a strategic engagement session.
Speaking on behalf of the Commission’s Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, described the visit as part of NiDCOM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with Nigerians in the diaspora. He noted that this year’s event, scheduled for July 25–26, is expected to attract over 1,000 physical participants and 10,000 virtual attendees from across the globe.
Dr. Bassi highlighted the vital contributions of the diaspora community in areas such as talent, skills, global exposure, networks, and financial remittances—exceeding $20 billion annually. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to connecting diaspora expertise and investments with national development efforts.
In her remarks, Dr. Chanchangi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and described the invitation to participate in the National Diaspora Day as an honour and a call to serve. She emphasized the importance of giving back, noted that impact doesn’t require wealth, but a willingness to contribute meaningfully in any field be it education, healthcare, engineering, or the arts.
She also announced her upcoming Soccer Charity Event in collaboration with football star Jude Ighalo, scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the National Stadium, Abuja.
Her daughter, Kleopatra, also shared her excitement about being in Nigeria and expressed interest in participating in the diaspora celebrations through cultural dance performances.
The visit ended with a strong message on the need to instill patriotism and cultural pride in younger generations of Nigerians living abroad.
