The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has commemorated its fifth anniversary, highlighting its achievements, including the resolution of over 1,000 petitions from Nigerians abroad. These petitions addressed emergencies, strandedness, consular issues, trafficking, and deportation, underscoring NiDCOM’s commitment to supporting Nigerians worldwide.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, shared the Commission’s milestones during the anniversary celebration in Abuja. She reflected on its performance since its establishment in 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari, emphasized the progress made and the critical role of diaspora contributions to national development.
“This celebration allows us to reflect on our achievements while preparing for the future. Despite challenges, NiDCOM has remained steadfast in its mission, thanks to the unwavering commitment of its staff,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
The Chairman also acknowledged the challenges faced over the years but expressed optimism for a brighter future for the Commission. She praised the dedication of past and present staff, whose efforts have driven the Commission’s success.
Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, Secretary to the Commission, emphasized the importance of NiDCOM’s role in fostering diaspora engagement, attracting investments, protecting Nigerians abroad, and promoting a positive image of Nigeria. He noted the hurdles faced but expressed confidence in the Commission’s resilience and ability to deliver impactful services.
Habibat Pat-Eluameh Esq, a former staff member, expressed pride in witnessing NiDCOM’s growth and optimism for a dedicated Commission building. Mrs. Halima Ajagbe, Head of Administration, praised Dabiri-Erewa’s leadership and reaffirmed the staff’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s goals.
The event also featured the presentation of awards and prizes to outstanding staff, recognizing their exceptional contributions to NiDCOM’s success story.
