Niger State Government has said it has commenced the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund implementation in order to support an effective delivery of primary healthcare services in the state.
Commissioner for Health Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Services, Dr. Mohammed Makusidi disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the government house, Minna.
He explained that the program was a large scale reform financed by annual grant of one percent consolidation revenue of the Federal Government, grant from international donors and funds from other sources.
According to him, the National Health Act, which was enacted in 2014, led to the introduction of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund to enhance effective delivery of primary healthcare services in the country.
Dr. Makunside stated that Niger State alongside Abia and Osun were the only states that qualified to be piloted, stated further that Niger state was the first to meet up with the laid down criteria, and gave out its commitment fee of N100 million.
He also disclosed that the fund received from the program was disbursed to 171 out of 274 primary healthcare facilities in the state after proper assessment.
The Commissioner for Health and Hospital Management Services said these funds would be sent directly to the facilities in order to ensure judicious utilisation of the fund.
