The Niger State Government has issued a final ultimatum to all scrap metal dealers and scavengers operating within the state to complete their registration before 15th November, 2025.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, stated that the exercise, which began on 22nd December, 2024, has been ongoing for nearly a year to ensure effective regulation and monitoring of scrap metal activities across the state.
Despite repeated appeals and extensions, the government observed that many operators have yet to comply with the directive. It therefore warned that no further extension will be granted, adding that failure to register before the deadline will attract sanctions, including closure of business premises, arrest, and prosecution of defaulters.
The statement further directed that all registered scavengers must operate only with approved identification jackets and ID cards issued by the registration authorities. It cautioned that anyone found scavenging without proper identification will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reaffirming the commitment of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s administration to organize and regulate economic activities in the state, the government noted that the initiative aims to promote environmental safety, public order, and sustainable economic growth.
The statement urged all concerned individuals and associations to take advantage of this final opportunity to regularize their operations before the expiration of the deadline.
