The Niger State Government has approved the total lifting of restrictions on the movement of motorcycles and tricycles in Minna metropolis between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., following significant improvements in the security situation in the state capital.
The announcement was contained in a public service notice issued on Thursday by the Niger State Ministry of Information and Orientation and signed by Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim, Director of Information Services, on behalf of the Commissioner.
According to the statement, the approval was granted by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago after a comprehensive review of security conditions in Minna.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, explained that the decision was taken “based on the strong recommendations of the State Security Committee,” noted that the move reflected sustained progress in curbing crime and enhancing public safety.
The Ministry stated that the initial restriction, introduced as a proactive security measure, successfully achieved its objectives of protecting lives and property and reducing criminal activities.
It also commended security agencies for their professionalism, as well as residents of Minna for their patience, cooperation, and understanding throughout the period of enforcement.
While restoring normal movement, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, urging security agencies and residents to remain vigilant and comply strictly with existing traffic and safety regulations.
Motorcycle and tricycle operators, alongside other residents, were advised to conduct their activities in a lawful, orderly, and responsible manner, emphasizing that peace and security remain a collective responsibility.
The government further expressed appreciation to the people of Minna for their resilience and support, which it said played a key role in consolidating the prevailing peace in the metropolis.
The statement added that the policy reflected the resolve of the Bago-led administration to pursue people-oriented policies and strengthen security initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development across Niger State.
