The Niger State Government has extended financial support to the family of Christiana Oladimeji, an immigration officer who was accidentally shot by a policeman during a mob incident in Minna on February 21, 2025.
The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), DCP Aminu Garba, visited Oladimeji at the Specialist Hospital, Minna, where she is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
During the visit, the police delegation presented a ₦1 million donation from the Niger State Government to Oladimeji’s family to assist with her medical expenses. The Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation to the state government for its continuous support to security agencies, particularly in ensuring the well-being of officers injured in the line of duty.
CP Danmamman reassured the family of the police command’s commitment to supporting them throughout the recovery process. He commended them for their resilience and patience during this difficult time and urged them to remain hopeful for Oladimeji’s full recovery.
Addressing concerns about the shooting, the police commissioner confirmed that the officer responsible for the incident is currently undergoing internal disciplinary action in line with police regulations. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force is committed to professionalism, accountability, and ensuring public safety.
The Commissioner further reassured that the unfortunate incident would not affect the strong working relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges in the state.
Following the incident, security experts and residents have called for improved training in crowd control and firearm safety to prevent such occurrences in the future. The incident has also reignited discussions on the use of force during security operations.
As Oladimeji continues her treatment under close medical supervision, her family, colleagues, and well-wishers remain optimistic about her speedy recovery.
