Niger Govt orders civil servants to refund excess february salaries or face sanctions

The Niger State Government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has directed civil servants who received multiple salary payments in February 2025 to refund the excess funds or risk penalties.

According to a statement jointly signed by Comrade Idris A. Lafene, NLC State Chairman, and Comrade Ibrahim Gana, TUC State Chairman, affected workers must return the overpaid amounts to the government’s salary account by the end of March 2025.
The directive mandated civil servants to include their name and control number in the transaction details when making refunds. Additionally, they must submit a hard copy of the payment receipt to the Treasury Unit of the Ministry of Finance, either individually or through their union branches.
Failure to comply with the directive will result in the suspension of future salary payments, and defaulters may face sanctions under civil service financial regulations.
The statement also clarified that this circular override any previous directives on the matter.
