Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has approved the reconstruction of a modern abattoir in Minna at the cost of N512.7m.
Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries, Alhaji Haruna Nuhu Dukku disclosed this during the Post Exco Media briefing held at Government House, Minna.
Dukku said the Minna Abattoir, which is almost 50 years old, needed to be modernized to meet the desired standard adding that doing so will make the processes of slaughtering and production of meat more hygienic in line with global best practices.
He said when the modern Abbatoir become operational, it will also bring together the over 50 slaughtering slabs scattered in and around Minna, and ultimately enhance capacity for the output of animals slaughtered daily.
According to the commissioner, no fewer than 1800 cows, 1500 sheep/rams, and 3000 goats are slaughtered in Minna monthly.
Meanwhile, the State Executive Council has approved the resettlement of Muregi and Ketso communities in Lapai and Mokwa local governments areas respectively with the sum of N398.7m and N284.6m for the provision of basic amenities.
Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mallam Sani Idris Muhammad said the executive council approved the resettlement of the communities as presented by the Ministry of Land and Housing as they were heavily hit by the recent flooding across the state.
He said that the resettlement has became necessary because the communities were totally submerged in water, added that the government has acquired the land for New Muregi and New Ketso.
