The Niger State Government has officially received 100 school children rescued from St. Mary Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area, following a coordinated security operation.
The children were handed over to Governor Umaru Bago at the Government House, Minna, by Wing Commander Abdullahi, representing the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu. The rescue, which spanned the past two weeks, involved the NSA’s office, the Department of State Security Services, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies.
Speaking during the handover, the NSA reiterated his commitment to safeguarding communities and institutions nationwide. He highlighted ongoing measures to protect high-risk areas while collaborating with state governments, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to develop sustainable, community-based security solutions.
“We will continue to pursue policies and operations that restore confidence, reopen schools safely, and ensure that every Nigerian child has the right to learn in safety,” the NSA stated.
Governor Umaru Bago thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NSA, security agencies, and other stakeholders for their role in the successful rescue. He assured parents of continued collaboration between the state and federal government to secure the release of any remaining abducted children.
The Governor confirmed that the rescued children would undergo medical examinations before being reunited with their families, reinforcing the state’s commitment to their safety and well-being.
