The Niger State Police Command has disbursed cheques worth over ₦51 million to 30 families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2023. The Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as part of the Force’s welfare initiative.
The payments, totaling ₦51,539,621.45, were drawn from key police welfare schemes, including the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident, and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. These initiatives aimed to provide financial relief and support to the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, CP Danmamman reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to the welfare of its personnel and their families. He described policing as a hazardous and humanity-centered profession that comes with significant risks.
“A loss to one is a loss to all. We understand the pain these families are going through, and this gesture is a demonstration of the IGP’s compassion and commitment to standing by them during this difficult time,” he said.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, offering prayers that the support would serve as a foundation for their financial stability rather than a source of confusion.
The event underscored the NPF’s continued efforts to honor the sacrifices of its personnel and ensure that the families they leave behind are not forgotten.
