The Niger State Police Command has recorded notable strides in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities, with successful operations that led to the arrest of suspected criminals, recovery of a diverted cement-laden trailer, and seizure of a suspected stolen vehicle.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 14, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, the command disclosed details of three separate incidents in different parts of the state.
On April 5, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., operatives attached to Bosso Division intercepted a trailer truck with registration number NDG 161 XA at Garima Junction, Bosso. The truck, which originated from Obajana, Kogi State, was loaded with 900 bags of cement valued at over N9 million and was meant to be delivered in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Investigations revealed that the truck was criminally diverted to Garima Bosso with intent to illegally sell the consignment. A suspect, Abdullahi Basiru from Sokoto State, who served as the motor boy, was arrested. He confessed to conspiring with the driver, Ibrahim Yusuf (now at large), to commit the crime.
Basiru was arraigned on April 9 and subsequently convicted for criminal conspiracy and theft. He was sentenced to ten months imprisonment without an option of fine. The recovered truck was returned to the company through a court order, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing driver.
On April 4, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., police operatives attached to Chanchaga Division, while conducting a stop-and-search operation at Alladey Junction, flagged down a black Golf wagon with registration number WSE 17 MS. The driver defied orders to stop and rammed into a barrier before fleeing the scene.
The vehicle was later found abandoned at Tutungo village, and a search revealed two goats, tubers of yam, two knives, brooms, and clothing items. The car was impounded for further investigation.
In a separate development, on April 12, 2025, operatives from Rijau Division arrested four suspected kidnappers identified as Shehu Mohammed (35), Mamman Sani, Daudu Mohammed (37), and Jibrin Ahmodu, all residents of Rijau Local Government Area.
The suspects were found in possession of two locally made pistols and one Dane gun. Preliminary investigation linked them to the kidnapping of a female victim from Angwan-Gwanda village, who later escaped. Her testimony led to the arrest of the suspects, who have confessed and are currently undergoing further investigation.
The police command assured that all suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, as part of the command’s unwavering commitment to securing the state.
