The Niger State Police Command has arrested 35 suspects for various crimes across the state, including thuggery during Maulud processions in Minna, unlawful possession of firearms in Mashegu, and vandalization of electricity transformers in Edati Local Government Area.
In a statement on Monday, 8th September 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP W. A. Abiodun, said the clampdown is part of the Command’s renewed efforts to curb criminal activities and maintain public safety.
He disclosed that on Saturday, 6th September 2025, 30 suspects were arrested during surveillance and patrol operations in Minna, within the hours of 7am and 9pm, at Angwan-Sarki, Limawa, Angwan-Daji, New Market, Sabon-Gari, Kuta Road, Obasanjo Complex, Ogbomosho Street, Lagos Street, and the Central Roundabout.
Items recovered from them included knives, cutlasses, an iron rod, scissors, cannabis, shisha apparatus, and other illicit substances. The suspects, according to the police, will be prosecuted for thuggery.
Similarly, on Friday, 5th September 2025, operatives on routine patrol in Makera town, Mashegu Division, arrested one Muhammad Usman of Guiye-Doko village in Edu LGA, Kwara State. He was found with two locally fabricated guns and six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Usman confessed to purchasing the arms in Soba village at ₦180,000 each and the ammunition at ₦5,000 per round. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fabricator.
Also, on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, four suspects—Mohammed Baba, Mohammed Ndako, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Mohammed Ibrahim, all of Gbodoti village in Edati LGA—were arrested in connection with conspiracy and vandalization of community electricity transformers in Gbodoti and Guzzan villages.
SP Abiodun added that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further investigation and prosecution.
