The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, on Monday, April 29, 2025, received the State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Nuhu Mohammed, and his team on an advocacy visit to the Command Headquarters.
Dr. Mohammed noted that the visit was part of the Commission’s ongoing initiative to foster human rights-based policing, promote community engagement, and advocate for legal reforms that safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups particularly those affected by HIV, tuberculosis, and gender-based issues.
He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies and human rights institutions to boost public trust and ensure inclusive security practices.
In response, CP Elleman commended the NHRC for its advocacy efforts and reiterated the Command’s dedication to respecting and upholding the rights of citizens, including those in police custody. He affirmed the readiness of the Command to deepen cooperation with the Commission and to strengthen measures that protect vulnerable and less privileged persons, in line with constitutional provisions.
The Commissioner also highlighted the sacrifices of security personnel who risk their lives in the line of duty and urged the NHRC to also advocate for the protection of their rights. He acknowledged the challenges involved in handling gender-related cases and assured that such matters would continue to receive professional attention.
Both parties expressed commitment to sustaining existing synergy in the interest of justice, human dignity, and public safety.
