The Niger State Government has clarified the status of pension and gratuity payments in the state, assured retirees that while pensions are fully up to date, gratuity payments are being processed transparently in phases.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Orientation, the government said there are no outstanding pension arrears in Niger State, stressed that all verified pensioners are paid promptly and as and when due.
The Ministry explained that gratuity payments are ongoing but are being handled in phases to ensure proper verification and accountability. According to the statement, ₦25 billion was approved by Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago for the payment of gratuities, out of which ₦7 billion has already been disbursed following 13 batches of screening and verification exercises.
The government noted that gratuity payments required extensive verification to confirm beneficiaries’ eligibility and the correct amounts payable, a process designed to promote fairness, transparency and the protection of public funds.
It assured retirees that the payment of outstanding gratuities will continue as screening progresses, with strict due diligence in place to safeguard both beneficiaries and state resources.
The Niger State Government urged pensioners to remain patient and trust in its commitment to addressing their concerns, while encouraging the public to rely on the Ministry of Information and Orientation for truthful, factual and timely information on government policies and programmes.
