The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, visited Lapai for an on-the-spot assessment following recent unrest involving students of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) and local residents.
Received by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Elisha Robinson, and the Lapai Council Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Musa Kirikpo, the CP assessed the security situation and emphasized the need for proactive measures to sustain peace.
During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Lapai, Engr. Umaru Bago Tafida III, CP Elleman commended traditional institutions for supporting peacebuilding. A stakeholders’ meeting was held at the Emir’s palace, with representatives from the university, local government, security agencies, student union, and landlords in attendance.
Key issues identified included poor town-gown relations, inadequate student accommodation, lack of security presence in off-campus areas, and infiltration by non-students. Resolutions included enhanced community policing, improved coordination among stakeholders, and internal screening of students by the university.
CP Elleman assured that an intelligence-led investigation is ongoing and vowed that those behind the unrest would be brought to justice. He encouraged landlords to hire vigilantes for student lodges and pledged improved police-community collaboration.
Upon returning to Minna, the CP convened a conference with senior officers to review security across the state and emphasized professionalism, quick response, and effective supervision.
