In a series of operations aimed at ensuring a peaceful Yuletide season, the Niger State Police Command has apprehended 13 suspects linked to various crimes, including culpable homicide, possession of illegal weapons, and drug-related offenses.
The arrests, conducted across multiple locations in the state, highlight the Command’s commitment to public safety, as detailed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, SP W.A. Abiodun.
On December 15, 2024, at about 7:30 PM, three suspects were arrested in connection with the stabbing and death of Usman Abubakar, 22, in the Sauka-Kahuta area of Minna.
The principal suspect, Ibrahim Abba (22), confessed to stabbing the victim during an argument over clothes. The other suspects, Abdullahi Yusuf (22) and Mustapha Mohammed (24), were reportedly present at the scene but failed to intervene.
All three are under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna.
In the early hours of December 15, police operatives on patrol arrested Musa Titus (47) in Sauka-Kahuta, Minna, after discovering a locally made pistol in his possession. The suspect claimed to have purchased the weapon for personal security. Investigations are ongoing.
Two suspects were arrested on December 11, 2024, during a police raid in Shanu Village, Bosso.
The suspects, Umar Umar (24) and Ibrahim Shehu (20), were found in possession of:
One long knife and a cutlass
22 wraps of cannabis and 33 wraps of heroin
Other illicit substances, including Emzor and MG tablets
Both suspects have been charged to court.
On December 17, 2024, at about 8:45 PM, seven miscreants were apprehended during a police raid in the Fadikpe area of Minna. The suspects, aged between 22 and 25, were found with cannabis, drugs, and a sharp knife.
Meanwhile,the Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining security throughout the festive period and beyond. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The arrested suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
