As Nigeria marked 64 years of independence,Muslim Public Affairs Centre,MPAC has enjoined Nigerians to promote unity and inclusivity.
MPAC in Independence Day Message signed by Disu Kamor,Executive Chairman expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for the blessings of freedom, diversity, and natural resources that Nigeria enjoys. The center acknowledged the progress made thus far and recognize the great challenges that still lie ahead.
The message partly read;
“We begin by giving profound thanks to God for His mercy and blessings upon our nation. Despite our trials and tribulations, we remain a country of great potential, bound together by a shared destiny. This anniversary invites us to reflect deeply—not just on the sacrifices of those who paved the way for our freedom, but on the collective responsibility we all share in shaping a brighter future for Nigeria.
“At 64, our nation stands at a critical juncture. We face a multitude of challenges including: insecurity, economic hardship, corruption, and the erosion of trust in our institutions. Yet, we must also recognize that these challenges present an opportunity for renewal and transformation. As we reflect on our past, we must look forward with a renewed sense of hope, purpose, and determination.
“As Muslims, we recognize the significance of independence, which embodies the values of freedom, self-determination, unity and shared destiny. We pray that Allah (SWT) continues to guide us all and bless our beloved nation with God-fearing leaders.
Reflection and Gratitude
We reflect on the struggles and sacrifices of our founding fathers, who fought tirelessly for Nigeria’s independence. Their vision, resilience, and patriotism paved the way for our nation’s growth and development.

Call to Action
As we celebrate this milestone, we urge all Nigerians to:
1. Promote unity and inclusivity, transcending ethnic, religious, and cultural differences.
2. Foster a culture of patriotism, integrity, and accountability.
3. Support initiatives that promote piety, economic growth, education, healthcare, and social justice.
4. Engage in constructive dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“We call our leaders to discharge the trust of the offices they are holding faithfully and know that one day, they will be held to account by God Almighty. Leadership is built on the foundation of trust, accountability, and service to the nation. Leaders are expected to embody the values of justice, compassion, sincerity, sacrifice and humility, striving to create a society that reflects these principles. Governance must be transparent, and leadership must be accountable to both the people and to God. We like to use the occasion of this anniversary to remind our political leaders of the following verses of the Quran:
On Justice and Fairness
1. ”And when they are in authority, they are guided by justice.” (Surah An-Nisa’, 4:58)
2. ”Be upholders of justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or your parents.” (Surah An-Nisa’, 4:135)
On Accountability
1. ”Every soul is responsible for what it has earned.” (Surah Al-Zalzalah, 99:7-8)
2. ”The leaders will be called to account for their people on the Day of Judgment.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:168-169)
On Protection and Care
1. ”And it is incumbent upon the leaders to protect and care for those under their authority.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:248)
2. ”And fulfill the rights of those who are under your care.” (Surah Al-Qasas, 28:26)
On Humility and Compassion
1. ”And consult with them upon the conduct of affairs.” (Surah Al-Shura, 42:38)
2. ”Show compassion and kindness to those who are under your authority.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:142)
On Truthfulness and Integrity
1. ”O you who believe! Be upholders of truth and justice.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:8)
2. ”And be truthful in your words and deeds.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:70)
On Wisdom and Guidance
1. ”And seek guidance from Allah, and be patient.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7:128)
2. ”And walk upon the path of the righteous.” (Surah Al-Maryam, 19:41)
On Consequences of Tyranny
1. ”And those who have oppressed shall know what they will return to.” (Surah Ash-Shu’ara’, 26:227)
2. ”And on the Day of Judgment, they will be among the losers.” (Surah Al-Qasas, 28:41)
“But leadership is not the sole agent of change. Every Nigerian, regardless of their station, has a role to play in rebuilding our nation. As citizens, we must rise above the forces of corruption, division, and violence. We must strive for excellence in our communities, promote the values of honesty, empathy, and selflessness, and work tirelessly for the betterment of our nation. The future of Nigeria depends not only on who governs but on how we, as citizens, govern ourselves. In the Qur’an, God says “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” (Surah Ar-Rad, 13:11). As citizens, Islam requires us to commit to contributing positively to Nigeria’s development, guided by Islamic values of justice, compassion, and fairness. As part of fulfilling this obligation, we continue to support our leaders and offer wise advice while holding them accountable. We stand in solidarity with fellow Nigerians, sharing the joys and challenges of our great nation.
“As we celebrate Nigeria’s independence, we reiterate our commitment to working together towards a brighter future. May Allah (SWT) continue to bless and protect Nigeria. We pray specially for peace and stability in Nigeria, wisdom and guidance for our leaders, prosperity and well-being for all Nigerians.
“Happy 64th Independence Day, Nigeria. Let us pray and work for the best”.
