Nigeria has taken a significant step toward strengthening its digital governance framework as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) formally assumed control of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) Portal.
The handover ceremony, held in Abuja, marked a major milestone in the country’s ongoing digital transformation drive under the e-Government Masterplan 2.0.
Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by the agency’s Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr. Dimie Warowei, described the development as the culmination of a strategic partnership between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea. The collaboration was supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Abdullahi noted that the NGEA initiative, which commenced in late 2022, is designed to modernize Nigeria’s public sector digital infrastructure through integrated systems and standardized frameworks across government institutions. He added that Nigerian and Korean experts worked over two and a half years to review and upgrade the country’s enterprise architecture framework to enhance interoperability, efficiency, and alignment with national priorities.
As part of the project, key reference models including Technology, Business, and Service models have been developed to guide implementation across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), while additional Data and Performance models are expected to further strengthen the system.
Pilot programmes were implemented in major institutions such as the National Identity Management Commission, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and NITDA. These agencies also benefited from capacity-building initiatives and tailored digital transformation roadmaps.
Supporting infrastructure for the portal was deployed by indigenous firm Qorebox Technologies Limited and hosted on facilities provided by Galaxy Backbone, with a two-year maintenance plan to ensure stability.
Abdullahi emphasized that the NGEA Portal goes beyond being a digital platform, describing it as a foundation for a more coordinated, efficient, and citizen-focused government.
“The successful implementation of enterprise architecture across government will help reduce duplication, improve interoperability, and enhance service delivery,” he said.
In his remarks, KOICA Country Director, Eunsub Kim, commended NITDA for its leadership and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, represented by Johnson Bareyei, described the portal as a shift from fragmented digital initiatives to a more coordinated national framework. He noted that the achievement aligns with the ministry’s transformation agenda under the leadership of Bosun Tijani.
The handover signaled the beginning of a new phase, with NITDA expected to drive the operational management and long-term sustainability of the platform as Nigeria intensified efforts to build a digitally driven public sector.
