The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its strong support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, urging regional and international actors to respect the country’s constitutional order.
In a press release issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria said its position is anchored on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all member states of the United Nations and the African Union.
Nigeria described the Government of Somalia as the legitimate authority representing the will of the Somali people and commended its efforts toward peace, security and national reconciliation despite persistent challenges.
The statement stressed that Nigeria stand in solidarity with Somalia and condemned any actions or rhetoric capable of undermining the country’s unity or territorial integrity. It also called on the international community to support Somalia’s institutions as they work to rebuild a stable, prosperous and resilient nation.
According to the Ministry, peace and stability in Somalia are critical to the security of the Horn of Africa and the African continent as a whole, added that Nigeria remain committed to supporting Somalia through multilateral engagements and international cooperation.
The Federal Government further warned international actors against recognising any part of Somalia as an independent entity, noting that such moves would only worsen the situation and escalate the crisis.
