The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the cancellation of all import declarations made during the implementation of the now-suspended 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports. Affected importers and customs agents have been directed to recapture their declarations to facilitate the clearance of their consignments.
The decision, contained in a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, aimed to maintain clarity, ensure consistency in customs operations, and prevent disruptions in the clearance process.
“All stakeholders affected are urged to promptly recapture their entries through the designated customs processing platforms. The NCS has put measures in place to ensure this process is seamless,” the statement read.
Customs Commands across the country have been instructed to assist importers and agents requiring support during this transition. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to implementing government fiscal policies in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 while fostering dialogue and engagement with stakeholders.
The statement further emphasized that under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Service remained dedicated to transparency and efficient service delivery. Traders have been urged to take advantage of this opportunity to avoid further delays in clearing their consignments.
This development followed the recent suspension of the 4% FOB charge, which had generated concerns among importers and trade stakeholders. The NCS has assured that necessary adjustments will be made to align with government policies while ensuring minimal disruption to trade activities.
