The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the death of one of its revered retired senior officers, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs (rtd), Ibrahim Idris Suleiman, who died in Dubai on Sunday, April 7, 2025, after a brief illness. He was 66 years old.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 8, 2025, by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the seasoned officer.
Born on October 20, 1958, in Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State, Suleiman began his academic pursuit at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History (Second Class Upper Division) in July 1981. He proceeded to complete the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1982.
He was enlisted into the Nigeria Customs Service on August 4, 1982, as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs. His diligence, professionalism, and commitment to duty saw him rise steadily through the ranks. He was appointed Assistant Comptroller-General in 2011 and later elevated to Deputy Comptroller-General in 2012, a position he held until his retirement on August 4, 2017.
“DCG Suleiman was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to national service,” CGC Adeniyi said in the statement.
The Nigeria Customs Service, along with his family, friends, and colleagues, mourned his passing and prayed Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
