The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving efficiency and competitiveness at the nation’s ports.
Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, made this known during a courtesy visit to the NPA on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He emphasized that the effectiveness of the ports directly impacts the performance of the Customs Service.
“If we get it right in our ports, we will get it right in the Service,” he stated, stressing the need for synergy between both agencies.
He further highlighted several initiatives being pursued by the NCS, noted that the active support of the NPA is critical to their success. The CGC commended ongoing collaborations, particularly at the Export Processing Terminal, and expressed optimism about extending similar strategies to the eastern ports to boost exports.
“The Nigeria Customs Service is ready to work with the NPA on initiatives that will ensure the competitiveness of our ports,” he added.
In response, the Managing Director of NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, assured the Customs Service of continued support.
“We are here for you, and we will give you all the necessary support. Together, we can move both agencies forward and help Nigeria become a better country,” he said.
The renewed partnership between the NCS and NPA is expected to address key challenges affecting port operations, improve trade facilitation, and enhance Nigeria’s position in global commerce.
