The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its commitment to inter-agency collaboration following an incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Cargo (MMAC) NAHCO Shed on March 6, 2025.
In a statement signed by National Public Relations Officer, ACC Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS explained that the disagreement, which involved officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Customs officers, stemmed from a miscommunication regarding equipment movement and seating arrangements.
The NCS emphasized that it remain steadfast in upholding the World Customs Organisation’s (WCO) Safe Framework of Standards, which promotes cooperation between Customs and other government agencies, as well as businesses. This approach, according to the statement, is crucial for efficient trade facilitation, regulatory compliance, and economic growth.
The Service further clarified that the NAHCO and SAHCO Import & Export Warehouses operate as licensed Customs Bonded Warehouses in accordance with Section 122 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. Section 127 of the Act also affirms that these facilities remain under the control of the NCS.
Under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the recurrence of such incidents while fostering a harmonious working relationship with all stakeholders.
The statement urged all parties to prioritize cooperation, adhere to due process, and maintain mutual respect to ensure smooth cargo operations and economic development.
