The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully issued the first Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) under the new B’Odogwu Trade Management System, marking a major milestone in the modernization of Customs operations.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the NCS highlighted that this achievement follows strategic engagements between the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso. The discussions reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to enhancing trade processes, boosting revenue collection, and fostering improved financial integration.
The B’Odogwu system, developed as an indigenous replacement for the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS II), is designed to improve Customs operations, increase efficiency in trade documentation, and strengthen inter-agency collaboration. During the pilot phase at Port and Terminal Multi-Services Limited (PTML) Customs Area Command, stakeholders from various government agencies were involved to ensure a smooth transition.
The issuance of the first PAAR marked the commencement of a nationwide rollout of the B’Odogwu system, aimed at streamlining customs procedures and enhancing trade facilitation. The NCS also remained focused on completing the necessary approvals and integrations with Authorized Dealer Banks (ADBs) to ensure seamless foreign exchange transactions and trade-related payments.
The NCS appreciated the support of all stakeholders and urged the trading community to fully embrace the B’Odogwu platform, which promised to drive more efficient, transparent, and technology-driven Customs processes.
