The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned Nigerian travellers against the misuse of United States entry visas, stressing the need for compliance with visa conditions and international travel regulations.
In a press release dated 29th July 2025 and signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Dr. Abdullahi Maiwada, the Service drew attention to concerns raised by the U.S. Government regarding the conduct of some Nigerian visa holders.
“The Nigeria Customs Service wishes to alert the general public to the concerns raised by the Government of the United States of America on the need for Nigerians to desist from misusing entry visas granted by the U.S. through activities that are inconsistent with the stated purpose of travel and visa classification,” the statement read.
The NCS emphasized that U.S. visa holders remain under continuous scrutiny even after entry, and any violation of immigration, import/export, or other applicable laws could result in visa revocation.
Additionally, the Customs Service reminded outbound and inbound travellers to declare cash exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent and to avoid travelling with prohibited items. These requirements, it said, are in line with global customs protocols and are enforceable under Nigerian law.
Maiwada further advised Nigerian travellers to uphold good conduct both at home and abroad, warning that acts of fraud or other illegal activities carry legal consequences in both Nigeria and the U.S.
He reaffirmed the Service’s collaboration with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to ensure Nigeria continues to meet the standards that prevent it from being placed on an expanded U.S. visa restriction list.
The Customs Service further reiterated its commitment to promoting lawful international travel and protecting the image of Nigeria and its citizens globally.
