The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged the establishment of a dedicated Customs Area Command at the Snake Island Integrated Free Zone (SIIFZ) to boost operational efficiency and regulatory oversight.
Adeniyi made the commitment during an official visit to the facility on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. He lauded the level of investment at the zone and commended Nigerdock the maritime and logistics company operating the SIIFZ—for its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
“We are just at the stage where we are finalising all the documentation, and I am very sure that by the next time I visit this place, I’ll be received by a Customs Area Controller,” the CGC stated, underscoring the strategic importance of enhancing Customs presence at the zone.
He stressed the need for synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and private sector players in driving sustainable economic growth.
“We are looking forward to a symbiotic relationship—one that benefits the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and Nigerdock as a corporate entity,” Adeniyi said.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of SIIFZ, Semiu Akorede, welcomed the development and acknowledged the existing cooperation between the zone and Customs officials.
“Your coming here today is going to add a lot of value. We have enjoyed the support of Customs officers working with us here, and I can confirm that our relationship has been cordial and productive,” Akorede noted.
He added that the planned consolidation of Customs activities would further support seamless operations within the Free Zone.
