The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the occasion of its Independence Anniversary.
In a goodwill message, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended warm felicitations to his counterpart, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, His Excellency Sean Sobers, and to the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Ambassador Tuggar described the anniversary as a symbol of the enduring spirit, unity, and determination of the Caribbean nation in its pursuit of sovereignty, democracy, and national progress. He noted that Nigeria shares in the celebration of this milestone, given the two countries’ common values of freedom, resilience, and sustainable development.
He further highlighted the cordial relations between Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, anchored on shared membership of the Commonwealth, and strengthened through cooperation in culture, education, trade, and multilateral diplomacy. The minister also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Trinidad and Tobago in international organisations such as the United Nations and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States to promote peace, security, and equitable growth.
Nigeria, he added, remained committed to deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of collaboration for the mutual benefit of both countries.
