Nigeria will host a high-level health security dialogue with the People’s Republic of China on Monday, 30 March 2026, aimed at enhancing pandemic preparedness and response. The event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will convene senior government officials, global health institutions, policymakers, and scientists from both countries.
Titled “Lessons on Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Insights from China and Nigeria,” the dialogue comes as nations continue to strengthen their defenses against future health threats in the wake of COVID-19. It is expected to provide a platform for sharing practical lessons, exchanging expertise, and fostering stronger collaboration to build resilient health systems.
Key discussions will focus on improving disease surveillance and early warning systems, enhancing emergency response coordination, strengthening overall health system resilience, fostering community trust through effective risk communication, and promoting international collaboration on pandemic preparedness.
The dialogue will also explore opportunities for deeper Nigeria–China cooperation in public health research, laboratory systems, pathogen surveillance, technology transfer, capacity building, and coordinated responses to cross-border health threats.
Expected outcomes include concrete policy recommendations to reinforce national pandemic readiness, strengthened bilateral collaboration, and strategic insights to inform both Nigeria’s and global health security priorities.
The programme will feature opening remarks from senior government officials, a keynote address by a leading global health expert, panel discussions with Nigerian and international specialists, and a post-event press briefing.
