The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Algerian President, Liamine Zeroual, who died at the age of 84.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extended heartfelt condolences to his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, as well as to the government, people, and family of the late statesman during this period of mourning.
Nigeria described the late Zeroual as a distinguished patriot and statesman whose leadership came at a critical period in Algeria’s history. The statement noted that his efforts in steering the country through political transition and stabilisation remain a significant part of its democratic development.
The Federal Government also highlighted Zeroual’s enduring legacy across Africa, particularly his contributions to peace, unity, and statecraft, which continue to resonate beyond Algeria.
Nigeria further assured the Algerian government and its people of its solidarity, offering prayers for strength, comfort, and peace in the wake of the loss.
