President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared that Nigeria has regained global respect and economic stability within just two years of his administration’s bold reforms.
The President made this known while receiving His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, who led a delegation of traditional rulers and prominent indigenes of Ogbomoso to the State House, Abuja.
“Years of neglect and self-deception, fake records, smuggling, and currency arbitrage denied Nigeria the necessary revenue for progress and development. With your prayers, patience, and understanding, I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised. The bleeding has stopped; the patient is alive,” Tinubu said.
He stressed that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was established to ensure no student drop out of school due to poverty, described education as the greatest weapon against deprivation. He further pledged to direct relevant ministers to address Ogbomoso’s requests in power supply, water, agriculture, and road infrastructure.
In his remarks, Oba Olaoye commended the President’s bold economic decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, and the launch of NELFUND, which he said were already making life easier for Nigerians. He also lauded the award of the dualisation of the Oyo–Ogbomoso Road, described it as a long-awaited project that would boost economic activities as a major gateway to the North.
The monarch, however, appealed for federal intervention in Ogbomoso’s water and power supply, the upgrading of its General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, and the establishment of a research institute to develop the town’s famed mangoes and cashew nuts into viable export commodities.
The President also thanked the Soun for acknowledging the administration’s bold reforms and assured him of continued support for the development of Ogbomoso and other parts of the country.
The Soun was accompanied by traditional rulers from Ogbomoso’s five councils, community leaders, and dignitaries. Chief Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication and Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland, was also in attendance.
