Nigeria is set to host the eighth Nigeria–European Union (EU) Ministerial Dialogue on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will lead the Nigerian delegation, while the European Union team will be headed by Kaja Kallas, who is also the Vice-President of the European Commission.
Kallas is expected to arrive in Abuja on Sunday, March 22, ahead of the high-level talks. During her visit, she will hold a bilateral meeting with Tuggar to review Nigeria–EU relations and explore ways to enhance cooperation across critical sectors.
As part of her engagements, the EU High Representative is also scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties between both parties.
A joint press briefing by the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister and the EU envoy will follow the ministerial dialogue, where key outcomes and areas of collaboration will be communicated to the public.
According to the Ministry, the dialogue will focus on deepening partnerships in trade and investment, security, governance, migration, climate action, and sustainable development. It added that the engagement reflects the growing and evolving relationship between Nigeria and the European Union, built on shared values of multilateralism, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation.
The Ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the EU and expressed optimism for a productive and forward-looking meeting.
