The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in collaboration with the United States of America, have carried out precision strike operations against identified foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in parts of North-West Nigeria.
The operation, executed with the approval of the appropriate Federal Government authorities, forms part of sustained efforts to eliminate terrorists and other criminal elements posing threats to Nigeria’s national security.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the strikes were conducted following credible intelligence and detailed operational planning designed to degrade the capabilities of the targeted elements while minimising collateral damage.
The joint action, the statement noted, highlighted the Federal Government of Nigeria’s determination working alongside strategic international partners to confront transnational terrorism and prevent foreign fighters from establishing or expanding footholds within the country.
Major General Uba reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressed that the military remained resolute in supporting joint and inter-agency operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security across the nation.
He assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces would continue to take proactive measures to safeguard the country from all forms of security threats.
