Nigeria and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence ties, with a renewed focus on enhancing special operations capabilities within the Nigerian Navy.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, on Thursday, 26 March 2026, received the United States Special Operations Commander, Africa, Major General Claude K. Tudor Jr., at Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, captured in an official photo story released by the Nigerian Navy, focused on advancing operational collaboration between both countries.
During the engagement, Abbas underscored the importance of sustained partnership in building the capacity of Nigerian Navy Marines. He acknowledged ongoing support from the United States in training programmes and called for expanded cooperation, particularly in special operations and advanced military training.
In his response, Tudor Jr. reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to deepening defence cooperation with Nigeria. He noted that efforts were underway to enhance joint and combined training initiatives, while also ensuring that support requests are processed more efficiently.
He further assured that structured mechanisms would be strengthened to improve coordination and deliver measurable outcomes in Nigerian Navy Marine operations.
The development mark another step in the growing military partnership between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in areas of maritime security and special operations readiness.
